How To Make Gold-plated Jewelry Last Longer

Our gold-plated jewelry pieces are made of durable materials, generally natural stones in gold-plated chains and hoops. Gold plated jewelry will remain bright and shine for a longer period of time if you know how to clean and protect it from scratches or fading.

    • Remove jewelry before bathing, swimming, and strenuous activities.
    • Protect jewelry from impact against hard surfaces and avoid contact with abrasive surfaces.
    • Wait to put on jewelry until after you have applied lotion, makeup or perfume.
    • Store each item separately so they won’t rub against each other and wear down over time.
    • Wipe gold-plated jewelry after each use, using a soft cloth to remove any dirt or debris.

    Frequently Asked Questions

YES! we work with and deal in only quality genuine natural stones. Our team works hard to source natural stone material to give you better jewelry pieces that are affordable and treasurable.

The short answer is – from all over the world. We source natural gemstones for our quality jewelry pieces and they come from all over the world.

A crystal becomes a gemstone when care and time have been invested to cut and facet it into a gemstone! So a crystal can become a gemstone, but a crystal in its raw form will always be a crystal!

TTT will replace chains if the chain has failed within two weeks of purchase. If a chain is snapped somewhere in the chain and not at the attachment end near the clasp (where it tends to break when it’s pulled excessively hard) we will review the chain before deciding whether to replace it.

18K yellow gold and platinum are two obvious choices for fine jewelry. Our 18K gold-plating is a method of depositing a thick layer of gold on environmentally-friendly brass. K means its content of gold which 18 K gold is containing 75% gold. Platinum-plating is often rhodium-plated to enhance its bright white color and luster and durability of metals, as long as your jewelry piece is clean, it looks as good as new. It doesn’t tarnish.

Try not to expose your rings to harsh chemicals. Take your jewelry off before bed, and don’t wear it in the pool or hot tub.

Yes, it is. As we said, platinum-plating is often rhodium-plated, and rhodium plating is hypoallergenic, you won’t get skin reactions by wearing rhodium-plated jewelry. This is because rhodium does not contain any allergens such as nickel. In fact, if you have a piece of jewelry that is causing you skin reactions, rhodium plating the piece can eliminate this problem.

However, note that while rhodium itself will not cause any rashes, white gold often contains nickel in its alloys. As the rhodium plating wears off, you may be exposed to nickel allergies as your skin comes into contact with the original metal of the jewelry.

Only in color! To make white gold, yellow gold is alloyed with copper and silver and with small amounts of nickel and zinc to create a white look. Therefore, it doesn’t have the same purity, strength, durability, or the unique natural white luster of platinum. White gold often has a faint yellow tinge. Another difference lies in weight. Platinum weighs 60% more than 14k gold — a pretty big difference! The difference between white gold and platinum is that platinum does not tarnish.

This is a natural and normal process. Gold-plated jewelry items are stronger than solid gold items and will last longer, the downside is it will tarnish over time, the reason is that the molecules of the base metals eventually transfer into the thin layer of gold, causing the gold layer to break down.

Platinum plating is affected by wear and tear, excessive sweating, and chlorine exposure. The thickness of the initial coating is also important and can affect the rate of wear.

However, you are able to have the shine and brightness of your gold/platinum restored to its original condition by having it re-plated by the local jeweler.

Treat it with the same respect you afford other fine jewelry. You can use a pre-packed jewelry cleaner or take your pieces in and have your jeweler clean them. Store pieces with care, separating them with a soft cloth. Following these simple steps will never bring the question as to will platinum tarnish.

1, Keep your jewelry away from chemicals. Exposure to chemicals can damage or discolor precious metals – gold, silver, and platinum – and may harm some colored gems.

2, Never place pressure directly on the stones themselves. Pushing rings on or pulling bracelets by their stones can loosen the fastenings which can quickly lead to lost stones.

3, To ensure your jewelry remains scratch and impact-free it should be stored just as you bought it.

4, Temperature, dryness, and sunlight also play a part in proper jewelry storage. Sunlight can discolor or damage certain gems.

5, Radical temperature changes, particularly when cleaning, should be avoided at all costs. A swift change from cold to hot can make some stones brittle and more liable to crack or break.

6, Jewelry should never be tossed into a drawer or on top of a dresser − that’s asking for scratches and damaged gems. All our jewelry pieces come in a well-crafted box with a soft pouch included, which is a perfect place to keep your piece.

7, Protect your jewelry pieces from scratches or other impact damage by padding them in a Separate Jewelry Box. Jewelry boxes that feature individually padded slots for rings and posts for hanging necklaces and bracelets are also ideal.

8, If you do want to keep your jewelry together in a box, just make sure the pieces can’t touch, or they may scratch each other. Pay particular attention to this if traveling with your jewelry.

9, Don’t use harsh cleaning chemicals such as bleach or anything that contains ammonia, as many gems will react badly with them. Never commit to a cleaning method until you are sure it is safe for your gem.

10, Jewelry can be the longest-lasting part of your wardrobe, provided you wear it responsibly. When in doubt, remember the golden rule: last to put on and first to take off.
