What TTT Mala is
A mala is simply a string of beads that are used in a meditation practice. It is a tool to help you count mantras, and acts as a tactile guide as you sit in silence. Malas can be made of many materials — typically stones, crystals, sandalwood, or rudraksha beads that carry certain energy.
The Mala is usually made up of 108 regular beads and an additional bead. There are many theories behind the significance of the number 108, which has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism. Someone would say that the number 1 stands for God, the universe or your own highest truth; 0 stands for emptiness and humility in spiritual practice; and 8 stands for infinity and timelessness when some others would say that there are 108 reasons why this number is considered sacred in the yoga practice. At the 109th bead, usually Guru Bead, it is customary to give gratitude to teachers and the most important people in your life.
